Project statement
The project stands as a white prism, a timeless sculpture, which generates a strong representative image of Ecuador: a country that advances at speed toward technological contemporaneity but at the same time reminds us of Ecuador's colonial past through the use of traditional materials, among which we highlight: stone for foundations and wall plinths, river pebble for courtyard paving, wood for mezzanine floors, and white load-bearing walls as structural elements. The proposed volume consists of a pure white envelope with a stone base, so that it generates the image of a sculptural piece of very contemporary geometry but with a nod to the traditional construction of the colonial architecture of central Quito, such as the predominance of solid elements over empty ones through leading volumetries.
The result is a proposal that is in itself an architectural sculpture, for the benefit of the art and culture of the country, in a way consistent with the architectural heritage built in Brasilia.
Translated from the studio's Spanish for this concept; pending the studio's review.
